Online Master of Social Work

Gain skills to improve individual and community quality of life through the flexible Online Master of Social Work (Online MSW) in the College of Public Health. You’ll learn to support those struggling to navigate life’s complexities through examining key social issues like child welfare, HIV and AIDS, homelessness, and organizational diversity.

Online students become an integral part of the Temple Social Work community and participate in high-quality field experiences, just as students in the traditional program do.

With 15 to 20 students in most courses, the online program features a low student-to-faculty ratio and substantial face time with classmates and professors through synchronous courses with group meetings and breakout room features. Professors make themselves available to students outside of class hours, both online and in person.

Online students can also visit campus and use Temple’s career center, libraries, print facilities, writing center and other campus resources.

This flexible program is for students returning to the classroom while balancing work and family commitments.

Students reserve Tuesdays from 7 to 9:30 p.m. EST or Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. EST for live classes. Academic advising, group meetings and fieldwork sessions may be scheduled on Thursdays from 7 to 9:30 p.m. You may complete the program part time in three to four years.

In addition, an online, self-paced orientation experience introduces you to Temple, social work and the technology you’ll be using during the course.

Other flexible options include the part-time MSW program offered in the evenings and on weekends. Many online courses are also available during the summer.

Who should apply?

Students who complete the program may be eligible to take the Association of Social Work Boards social work licensing exam after graduation. Temple University is able to offer this online program through its participation in SARA, the State Authorization Reciprocity Agreement.
