Become proficient in spoken and written Mandarin, and examine the roles language plays in the life and culture of China. Gain a deeper understanding of the country’s history and society by exploring its most defining works of literature and film.

The Chinese Major requires no prior background or knowledge of Mandarin. However, students with extensive language experience may earn placement in high-level courses.
