This online master of science is designed for students to develop an area of expertise within recreational therapy (RT), including physical rehabilitation, behavioral/mental health, pediatrics, geriatrics and at-risk youth. By leveraging structured leisure activities like adapted sports and the arts (including music, dance and horticulture) for therapeutic recreation and supporting the lifestyle of those living with disability, you will treat patients holistically through combined kinesiology and social psychology in diverse environments like hospitals, specialized rehab centers, long-term care facilities and community-based programs. Graduates collaborate with a variety of disciplines including occupational and physical therapy, nursing, social work, and special education.
Students who do not have an academic background in recreational therapy may use the program to meet eligibility requirements for the national credentialing examination for recreational therapists.
