Advanced Education in General Dentistry, Year 2 Certificate (Graduate)

Residents in the Advanced Education in General Dentistry, Year 2 (AEGD) program in the Kornberg School of Dentistry at Temple University have the option to complete a second year, offering advanced clinical experience and training. The second-year program is also open to students who completed a comparable, Commission on Dental Accreditation-accredited, one-year program from another school.  

The second year emphasizes specialized training and research. Residents have the flexibility to pursue specific areas of interest and patient care based on their professional goals.

AEGD Optional Year 2 Program Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of the program, students will have acquired the baseline knowledge required to function as the primary dental care professional at a higher level of care beyond year one. Students will be able to 

  • function effectively and efficiently within interdisciplinary health care teams;

  • apply scientific principles to learning and oral health care;

  • use critical thinking, evidence- or outcomes-based clinical decision-making, and technology-based retrieval systems; and

  • utilize the values of professional ethics, lifelong learning, patient-centered care, adaptability, and acceptance of cultural diversity in professional practice.

The year 2 program is 12 credits and the curriculum comprises the following courses.  

Fall

  • Advanced General Dentistry Clinic III
  • Interdisciplinary Comprehensive Dental Treatment Planning Grand Rounds  

Spring

  • Advanced General Dentistry Clinic IV
  • Interdisciplinary Comprehensive Dental Treatment Planning Grand Rounds
