Information Science and Technology MS

Develop foundational knowledge in information systems and gain technological-specific professional skills through the Master of Science in Information Science and Technology in Temple’s College of Science and Technology. The Information Science and Technology MS is designed to serve students from diverse academic and professional backgrounds, including biology, chemistry, engineering, business, social sciences and the arts with no prior computer science experience required. Students in this graduate program will learn how to apply advanced software systems, database technologies and networks to modeling and simulating real-world data structures and processes.

Through applied, practice-oriented coursework, students in this program will be prepared for professional technology roles across a broad range of industries, such as

business analyst,
network administrator,
database manager,
UI/UX designer and
mobile application developer.

The Information Science and Technology program offers both online and in-person course delivery to provide flexibility for working professionals.

Like all programs in the Department of Computer and Information Sciences at Temple, the Information Science and Technology MS emphasizes a combination of theory and practice. Through a blend of computing and leadership skills development, students build strong communication, analysis and problem solving skills. The program has a strong interdisciplinary dimension, and students may take up to three graduate courses related to Information Science and Technology in other departments.

Classes & Curriculum

Classes are offered online or in-person and held in the evening. The Information Science and Technology program can be completed on a part-time or full-time basis. Concepts covered in coursework include

data structures and introduction to coding;
software engineering methods;
database design and programming;
software security and digital forensics;
quality assurance and testing; and
wireless networks.

You will also learn about process re-engineering and gather the skills to design and implement robust web and mobile applications to support these processes.

Temple undergraduates can pursue dual degrees with an accelerated +1 dual bachelor’s + master’s degree option. The Information Science and Technology MS can be completed through the +1 accelerated pathway if the required qualifications are met by junior year.

Tuition rates are set annually by the university and are affected by multiple factors, including program degree level (undergraduate or graduate), course load (full- or part-time), in-state or out-of-state residency, and more. These tuition costs apply to the 2025–2026 academic year.

Pennsylvania resident: $1,395.00 per credit
Out-of-state: $1,824.00 per credit
