Admissions

How to Apply

To apply, submit Temple University’s application along with the $60 online application fee. Standardized tests (GRE or MAT) are not required.

Supporting Materials

  • Transcripts: Submit official undergraduate and graduate transcripts from all accredited institutions you have attended and/or from which you earned credit.
  • Goals Statement: In 500–1,000 words, state your career goals and how you believe this degree will help you achieve them. Discuss the relevant experience you have obtained so far.
  • Recommendations: Submit two letters of recommendation.
  • Résumé: A current professional résumé is required.
  • Standardized Test Scores: Test scores, such as the GMAT or GRE, are optional.

Additional Requirements

Music Degree

Applicants must hold an undergraduate degree in music or an equivalent, with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0. Competitive applicants should possess an undergraduate cumulative GPA of 3.33 or higher.

 

Project

Auditions are not required. Applicants must submit a project via Acceptd. Your project should demonstrate originality, creativity and the ability to work in one or more technological areas. Examples include (but are not limited to)

  • a short film that you scored;
  • a composition, orchestration, or an edited or mixed recording that was created using music technology (e.g., Pro Tools, Cubase, Logic, Fruity Loops, MIDI, Garageband or Max/MSP/Jitter); or
  • a piece of software or hardware that you designed or manipulated, among others.

You are welcome to submit two different projects, but only one project is required.

Project Narrative

In addition to a final mix (.mp3 for audio, .mp4 or .mov for video), please submit a brief video presentation for each project in which you discuss and demonstrate how you created the project. Be sure to introduce yourself and tell us how you used the software (e.g., DAW, plugins) and/or hardware (e.g., microphones, audio interface, MIDI controllers) to achieve your artistic goals. This video should be between one and three minutes long for each project submitted.

Additional Requirements for International Applicants

For applicants whose native language is not English, the TOEFL, IELTS or PTE Academic scores are required. The minimum scores for the TOEFL are 79 iBT or 550 PBT.
