Finance Research at the Fox School of Business

The Department of Finance at the Fox School of Business is a leading center for research and scholarship in asset pricing, corporate governance, financial institutions, financial regulation, and FinTech. Its faculty include internationally recognized scholars whose work is regularly published in top Finance journals such as the Journal of Finance, Journal of Financial Economics, and Review of Financial Studies, and presented at prestigious academic conferences worldwide. Faculty expertise is widely sought after, with many members serving on editorial boards of leading journals and on conference program committees. Temple University is a member of the eight-university consortium that organizes the annual Conference on Financial Economics and Accounting (CFEA) and a co-organizer of the Philly 5 Finance Research conference.

Research Centers

Research centers conduct and promote cutting-edge research in various areas of business and management.

  • The Fischer-Shain Center for Financial Services is a doorway into the financial services industry for students at Temple University’s Fox School of Business. The Center supports research in the area of financial institutions and regulation. Together with the Department of Finance, it organizes an annual international research conference that brings together leading academics and industry professionals to advance knowledge on financial intermediation and financial services.
  • The Data Science Institute (DSI) is the home to cutting-edge research in data science and analytics education at Temple University. Focusing on a wide range of challenging methodological and applied problems in statistics, computer science, and business disciplines, the faculty in the Data Science Institute work closely with private corporations, non-profits, and government organizations to identify important problems, and to collaboratively develop sophisticated yet practical solution that are poised to have a substantial impact in the world.
  • The Center for Business Analytics and Disruptive Technologies at the Fox School of Business is a hub for cross-disciplinary data analysis. The center works across schools, departments and disciplines in academia and industry to develop and implement solutions to data analytics challenges in decision-making, technology and visualization. 
  • The Global Institute for Artificial Intelligence and Business Analytics facilitates research, education and industry practice in the world of big data, advancing areas such as mobile commerce strategies, user-technology interface and machine learning.

Academic Facilities and Resources

Alter Hall is the premier facility of the Fox School of Business at Temple University. Opened in 2009, this 217,000-square-foot, seven-story building is designed with state-of-the-art technology. It features the Capital Markets Room with several Bloomberg terminals, modern and spacious classrooms, several computer labs and multiple break-out rooms. Alter Hall is a home of the longest elliptical stock ticker display of any American business school, measuring 177 feet in length.

Fox School faculty and students have access to the real-time financial data, news and analytics through Bloomberg terminals, Capital IQ Pro platform, LSEG Workspace and FactSet. The Fox School of Business also subscribes for various research datasets provided by Wharton Research Data Services (WRDS) and regularly purchases new datasets from individual data vendors.
