Research & Facilities

The Tyler School of Art and Architecture is committed to improving the learning process for students at all levels and in all types of organizations. The college has three research centers and one institute, including the Intergenerational Center, where researchers aim to improve community capacity and civic engagement by supporting initiatives like foster parent support, immigrant services and training that strengthen social ties among those of different ages.

The College also has academic departments dedicated to improving educational policy, leadership and organization, and instructional strategies, as well as understanding the relationship between behavioral health and learning. Facilities

The Sustainability and Climate Resilience Certificate (Graduate) is exclusively offered at Temple’s Center City campus, located across the street from City Hall in the heart of Philadelphia’s downtown business district.

The Tyler School of Art and Architecture is primarily located in Ritter Hall, Ritter Hall Annex, and Weiss Hall on the Main Campus. The campus’ North Philadelphia location is ideally suited to provide opportunities for students to engage with area schools, communities, government agencies, and for-profit and nonprofit organizations.

Research Quality & Funding

In 2016, Temple was elevated to an R1 institution of “highest research activity” by the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education, placing it in the top 4 percent of all four-year educational institutions in the nation. Temple’s research enterprise distinguishes itself through its focus on community, and using advances in technology to make a positive impact on people’s lives.

In the same year, the National Science Foundation placed Temple among the top 100 in terms of research expenditures, which amounted to $242 million. Learn more about the university’s research support efforts.
