The Temple University Community Gateway is proud to welcome Ramond Nelson as one of our dedicated community navigators.
A native of Pittsburgh, Ramond has called Philadelphia his second home for over six years. He’s Temple Made through and through—he earned his bachelor's degree at Temple and is currently pursuing graduate studies. With nearly a decade of experience as a child welfare consultant, Ramond brings deep passion and insight to everything he does.
Just this past June, Ramond had the incredible opportunity to testify before Congress at the U.S. Ways and Means Committee hearing titled “Aging Out is Not a Plan: Reimagining Futures for Foster Youth.” There, he shared his expertise on what resources are truly needed for the hundreds of thousands of youth still in the child welfare system.
Ramond lives by the motto “Redefining Odds”—a reflection of his commitment to inspiring young men and women in the inner city to see themselves and their futures differently.
He is also a proud member of the prestigious Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc., a nationally recognized organization known for over a century of service, excellence and leadership—a tradition Ramond continues with pride.
As a community navigator, Ramond serves as a vital connector between Temple and the surrounding neighborhoods. His goal is to bridge the gap between the community and the many incredible resources Temple has to offer.
On any given day, you might find Ramond tabling at a local community center, school or business—or just out and about in the neighborhood, striking up conversations and sharing information. He regularly meets with residents both in person and virtually, helping them access resources through case management, warm handoff referrals and more. Ramond also partners with Temple community programs and service providers to make sure residents are receiving high-quality, impactful support.
Ramond’s work is deeply personal. He’s committed to helping others reach their full potential and is excited to continue building a more accessible and inclusive Temple University for all.
