Biography

Over 35 years of Leadership experience in academic and Pharmaceutical industrial settingsresulted in training several generations of researchers in Medicinal Chemistry and in Drug Discovery resulted the advancement of numerous drug candidates into development and training hundreds of researchers and students. During my 26 years tenure at Wyeth (Pfizer) my teamresearch efforts led to into discovery of several clinical candidates and the marketing of 10 innovative drugs benefiting millions of patients worldwide. During last 12 years tenure at Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, School of Pharmacy, Temple University my efforts were focused on enhancing and implementing School of Pharmacy research strategies to promote the school’s research and entrepreneurial missions. My role as Director of Moulder Center (2009-2020) included: overseeing research efforts of multidisciplinary team focusing on the design and synthesis of small molecule therapeutics in multiple disease areas; facilitating collaborative research within Temple University researchers and with external collaborators in the US and abroad and training undergraduate and graduate students, junior faculty, Postdoctoral Fellows and visiting scientists on state-of-the art enabling technologies and modern Drug discovery and Development. This led to securing over $15M in research funding including $8.2M Temple University Drug Discovery Initiative (DDI). Temple DDI was instrumental in enhancing school research capabilities, infrastructure, the hiring of 4 Tenure-track faculty, 1 Non tenure track facultyand 5 Research Staff, providing starting fund for newly hired faculty and providing research fund to support research activities of several faculty. This resulted in good return on investment evident by receiving several grants, several publications in peer-reviewed journal, filing over35 US patents and the formation of 3 spin off companies and 2 additional spin off companies in progressand a licensing agreement with an established company. Over the years, my Research Activities resulted in: Discovery of 10 marketed Drugs,123 Publications, 5 Book Chapters, 119 US Patents, over 350 Worldwide Patents and 228 Presentations and invited Lectures and 3 spin out companies.
