Biography

Geoffrey Baym is a professor in the Department of Media Studies and Production. A former TV news producer, Baym explores the shifting styles and standards of broadcast journalism, public affairs media, and political discourse. His work particularly examines the melding of news and entertainment, and politics and popular culture. His publications include the award-winning From Cronkite to Colbert: The Evolution of Broadcast News (Oxford University Press) and the edited collection News Parody and Political Satire Across the Globe (Routledge). His writing has appeared in numerous scholarly journals and anthologies, including Political Communication, Popular Communication, Journalism, Journalism Studies, Information Communication & Society and the Journal of Communication. He earned a PhD in communication from the University of Utah and teaches courses in media criticism, history and theory.
