Admissions

How to Apply

To apply, submit Temple’s online graduate application along with an application fee of $60. 

Applicants must have completed their bachelor’s degree. A degree in a related field is preferred; however, all applications will be considered.

Candidates will be asked to submit the following along with their application. 

Transcripts

Submit official transcripts from every college and university you have attended.

Letters of Recommendation

Submit three letters of recommendation from faculty and professionals.

Statement of Goals

Your statement should be about 500 to 1,000 words in length. Include your specific interest in Temple’s program, your research and future career goals, and your previous academic and research achievements.

Standardized Test Scores

Graduate Record Examinations (GRE) general test scores are required.

Résumé

A current professional résumé or curriculum vitae is required.

Writing Sample

The writing sample should demonstrate your ability to conduct research and write a scholarly paper. The paper may be on any topic. It must be fully referenced according to a professional and scholarly style.

Transfer Credits

Graduate coursework in sociology may be transferred from outside the university, provided that the credits were obtained no more than five years prior to the student’s matriculation at Temple and the grades are “B” or better. The maximum number of credits a student may transfer is six.

Additional Requirements for International Applicants

Applicants who earned their baccalaureate degree from an institution where the language of instruction was other than English, with the exception of those who subsequently earned a master’s degree at a U.S. institution, must report scores for a standardized test of English that meet these minimums.

  • PTE Academic: 68
