CLA Public Policy MPP Admissions

How to Apply

To apply, submit Temple’s online graduate application along with an application fee of $60.

Applicants must have completed their bachelor’s degree. A degree in a related field is preferred; however, all applications will be considered.

The Public Policy Program is pleased to be able to offer application fee waivers to current members and alumni of the following public service programs: AmeriCorps, City Year and Peace Corps. Please email [click-for-email] to request a fee waiver prior to submitting your application.

Supporting Materials

Transcripts

Submit official transcripts from every college and university you have attended. The Public Policy program accepts unofficial transcripts from potential applicants who inquire about their competitiveness for admission. Successful applicants to the Public Policy MPP program have a minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.0.

Letters of Recommendation

Submit two letters of recommendation from faculty and professionals. Letters of recommendation should be obtained from college/university faculty members familiar with academic competence. For applicants with extensive administrative experience, two of the letters may come from supervisors or colleagues in the agency or organization where the applicant has been employed.

Letters must be on official letterhead or include the recommender’s full contact information: mailing address, phone and email.

Statement of Goals

Your statement should be about 500 to 1,000 words in length. Include your specific interest in Temple’s program, your future career goals, and your previous academic and professional achievements.

Standardized Test Scores

We do not require the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) for applications to the MPP program. Applicants are still welcome to submit scores if they would prefer to or have already taken the exam for another reason.

Résumé

A current professional résumé is required.

Transfer Credits

Students admitted to the MPP program can transfer up to six credits. The credits must have been earned at a reputable institution with a grade of “B” or higher, and Temple University must have equivalent courses in its course inventory. Students who wish to transfer credits must submit a transcript listing the courses to be transferred and set up an appointment with the director of the MPP degree program to discuss transferring into the program.

Transfer students must apply to the MPP program and generally meet the same requirements as other applicants, although their performance in another MPP or Master of Public Administration program will be given special consideration in the admissions decision. Additional Requirements for International Applicants

Applicants who earned their baccalaureate degree from an institution where the language of instruction was other than English, with the exception of those who subsequently earned a master’s degree at a U.S. institution, must report scores for a standardized test of English that meet these minimums.
