Admissions

How To Apply

Students in the Psychology BA apply to this program during the spring semester of their junior year. Students must have a faculty sponsor who has agreed to mentor the student’s master’s project research during the four-semester program. A 3.5 GPA is required.

Candidates will be asked to submit the following.

Transcripts

Submit unofficial transcripts from Temple University and official transcripts from every other college and university you have attended.

Letters of Recommendation

Three letters of recommendation from faculty members who are familiar with your academic competence are required. At least one letter must be from a member of the Psychology and Neuroscience Department. Transfer students may submit one letter from faculty at their previous college or university. Enter recommenders’ email addresses in the application.

Statement of Goals

Write a personal statement of 500-1,000 words that describes your

  • reasons for pursuing a master’s degree,
  • current research interests,
  • research experience and
  • career goals.
Faculty Sponsor Agreement

A +1 Faculty Sponsorship Agreement must be submitted with your application. It is each student’s responsibility to contact a faculty member to initiate a conversation about sponsorship for the program. Be prepared to discuss your research interests, potential research projects, your responsibilities in the sponsor’s lab and the sponsor’s expectations for your research progress in each semester of the program.

Academic Writing Sample

Submit a writing sample that demonstrates proficiency in academic writing appropriate for the master’s level of study.

Curriculum Vitae

A current curriculum vitae or résumé including your Temple University Psychology GPA, relevant coursework, honors and awards, research experience, work experience and volunteer experience.

Application to the Graduate School

During the spring of their senior year, students who are admitted to the 4+1 Program must then apply to the Graduate School for formal admission to the graduate program. More information about applying to the Graduate School is included below.

Application Deadline

The program application deadline is March 1.

Applications are not evaluated until after the deadline has passed.

If you are currently an undergraduate student in Psychology at Temple University, apply online to this graduate program. The Psychological Research MS program is open only as an accelerated +1 program for Psychology undergraduate students at Temple University. It is expected that the program will open to non-Temple students in the future, but that time frame has not yet been determined.
