Required Courses

Your curriculum will vary depending on whether you select a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science. All students take an introductory course in geology followed by a series of classes that explore concentrations within the discipline. Through core and elective courses you will gain exposure to

  • geochemistry,
  • groundwater,
  • igneous and metamorphic geology,
  • paleontology,
  • the interpretation of Earth history through the study of sedimentary deposits,
  • the study of minerals, and
  • the use of computers and remote sensing in geology.

Geology BA

Learning happens through classroom instruction, laboratory and fieldwork, and research opportunities. A sample of the courses you might take include

  • Groundwater Hydrology,
  • Mineralogy and
  • Physical Geology.

Geology BS

Learning happens through classroom instruction, laboratory and fieldwork, and research opportunities. A sample of the courses you might take include

  • Igneous and Metamorphic Petrology,
  • Paleontology and Stratigraphy, and
