Scholarships & Financial Aid

Graduate Awards & Scholarships

As a graduate student at Temple, you may apply for university funding, external scholarships and federal financial aid options to help fund your degree. Your eligibility for these scholarships will be determined by the Office of Admissions and the Student Financial Services.

Awards

The American Dental Association Award of Excellence is given to a dental student who holds a membership to the American Student Dental Association and is in good academic standing. Awardees demonstrate leadership in extracurricular school activities, are involved with local community service and actively participate in furthering the cause of organized dentistry.

The Dental Class of 1932 Award provides scholarships for senior dental students with high academic averages and/or demonstrated excellence in dental clinical practice.

The Terry Tanaka Humanitarian Award is given to a senior dental student in recognition of their exemplary volunteer services during Dental School enrollment.

Scholarships

The Abramson Family Foundation Scholarship provides scholarships for two students entering the pre-doctoral program. Candidate selection is based on demonstrated financial need and undergraduate academic achievement.

The ADEA-Crest Oral B Scholarship provides scholarships for enrolled students who demonstrate interest in advanced education, show commitment to pursuing an academic career in dental education and are members of the American Dental Education Association.

The American Dental Association Foundation offers scholarships to dental students who are enrolled full time in their second year of study at the time of application, and demonstrate both financial need and a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.25, based on a 4.0 scale.

The Donald Defonce Memorial Scholarship provides scholarships for dental students who have financial need and are in good academic standing, with preference given to students who are former or current residents of southern New Jersey.

The Delaware Institute for Dental Education and Research Scholarship provides financial assistance to dental students who are residents of Delaware.

The Delta Dental Loan to Scholarship Fund is a loan-to-scholarship initiative given to a first-year student based on financial need and their intention to practice dentistry in an underserved area after graduation.

The Dental Trade Alliance Foundation Scholarship is offered to dental students who have financial need, are in good academic standing and demonstrate a strong interest in charitable work and community service.

The William E. Dimeo Scholarship Fund provides assistance for dental students who have completed FAFSA applications.

The William B. Dragan, DDS Scholarship Fund provides scholarships for incoming students who have financial need, are the first member of their family to graduate from college and have demonstrated leadership characteristics.

The John Esposito, DDS Scholarship provides scholarships for incoming dental students from Pennsylvania or New Jersey who are the first in their family to attend dental school.

The William Goldman Foundation provides scholarships for dental students who are in the top one-third of their class, have financial need and have completed the first year of dental school.

The I. Henry Grant Scholarship provides a scholarship to a junior dental student who is in good academic standing, has financial need and is a member of the Student National Dental Association.

The Hispanic Dental Association Scholarship provides scholarships for student members of the Hispanic Dental Association. Candidates must demonstrate commitment and dedication to improving oral health. Awardees must be able to attend a scholarship reception in New York City.

The Horace Wells Club Trust offers scholarships for dental students who are residents of Connecticut, have demonstrated financial need, are in good academic standing and have a commitment to providing care to the underserved.

The Cary Klimen, DDS Excell in Ethics Scholarship provides annual scholarships to dental students in the top two-thirds of their class who exhibit personal values and actions that demonstrate integrity and ethics.

The Howard G. Lapsley Scholarship Fund awards scholarships to students who attend any dental or osteopathic school that is accredited by the Association of American Medical Colleges, the Osteopathic Association or the Council on Dental Education of the American Dental Association. Recipients are chosen based on their achievement, community outreach endeavors and leadership skills.

The Marcus Family Fund provides scholarships for incoming first-year students based on undergraduate academic achievement and/or disadvantaged status.

The Monroe County Dental Society provides scholarships for dental students who are in good academic standing and are residents of Monroe County, New York.

The Julia Moran Trust Fund offers scholarships to two senior dental students who are in the top one-fifth of their class, and have financial need and a history of endeavors during their enrollment that would be considered contributions to the dental profession.

The Philadelphia County Dental Society provides scholarships to second- and third-year dental students based on financial need and academic achievement.

The Pierre Fauchard Foundation Scholarship is awarded to a third-year dental student based on academic achievement, communication skills, integrity and financial need.

The George C. Sands Scholarship Fund provides scholarships for dental students with financial need. Preference is given to students from the areas of Bucks or Montgomery counties in Pennsylvania.

The Temple Dental Alumni Fund provides a scholarship to a second-year student based on character, academic achievement and financial need.

The Frank Verdi Scholarship Fund provides scholarships for dental students who demonstrate academic excellence and financial need. Preference is given to residents of southern New Jersey.

The Harry Willits Student Assistance Fund provides scholarships for dental students based on academic achievement.

The York County Community Foundation Scholarship provides financial assistance to dental students who are in good academic standing and reside in York County, Pennsylvania.

The following scholarships are available to dental students who have financial need and are in good academic standing.

The following scholarships are available to dental students who have financial need.

The following scholarships are available to dental students who are experiencing temporary financial difficulty. Academic achievement is not a consideration in the funding selection process.

Service Scholarships

The National Health Service Corps Scholarship and the Armed Forces Health Professions Scholarship are service-based programs. They cover the cost of dental education and provide a living allowance in exchange for a specific number of years of service after graduation. Learn more about the National Health Service Corps.

Federally Funded Scholarships

The William D. Ford Federal Direct Loan Program allows students to borrow funds directly from the U.S. Department of Education to help finance their dental school expenses. Both subsidized and unsubsidized direct loans are available. Apply at studentloans.gov.

The Federal Direct Graduate Plus Loan is additional funding often used to supplement the direct student loan. It may be used to assist with living expenses and other costs. Please contact Student Financial Services at or 215-707-2667 for more information about these federal loan opportunities.
