College of Science and Technology graduate candidates must have a bachelor’s degree in a related discipline and a minimum 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale to apply.

Prerequisites for non-CIS students

If you do not have a strong background in computer science, begin exploring by taking an introductory course in programming in Java, which is required for all CIS degrees. You can take this course at Temple (Program Design and Abstraction) or any other accredited college or university. Consult the department about what additional prerequisites you might need.

Additional Requirements for International Students

For applicants whose native language is not English, the TOEFL, IELTS or PTE Academic exam is required. The minimum scores for the

  • TOEFL is 85 iBT or 563 PBT,
  • IELTS is 7.0, and
  • PTE Academic is 58.
