The Department of Educational Leadership and Policy Studies offers graduate programs leading to the Master of Education (Ed.M.) and Doctor of Education (Ed.D.), and Doctor of Philosphy (Ph.D.) degrees. Pennsylvania certification programs in the principalship, supervision, and central office administration also are offered. Courses focus on educational organization and management theory, philosophical and political analysis, research design and implementation, educational administration, and urban education. Courses are offered customarily in the evening on the Main Campus and at off-campus centers.
The doctoral program in educational administration has two parallel concentrations: administration for specialists in line administrative positions in basic education and the administration of higher education.
The interdisciplinary urban education doctoral program offers research and policy specializations in urban education.
Programs of Study The department offers graduate programs leading to the Master of Education and Doctor of Education degrees. Programs leading to Pennsylvania certification for the principalship, supervisory positions, and the superintendency also are offered. Courses in the department are grouped under four divisions:
For educational administration, complete master's degree applications should be submitted by July 1 for fall admission, by November 1 for spring admission, and May 1 for summer admission. Applications for Ed.D. programs in educational admini-stration are acted upon once a year. All credentials must be received by February 1 for summer or fall admission. For urban education, complete applications should be submitted by February 15 for summer and fall admissions and by October 1 for spring admission.
