Degree Requirements Students in the M.S. in Ed. are required to complete 30 graduate credits in the following distribution: 15 credits of core courses; 6 credits of concentration credits as specified below, and 9 credits of electives. Required Core Courses: ED 554, 650, 652, 653; ED PSY 529 Required Concentration Courses: Early Childhood Education: ECH ED 414, 415 Elementary Education: EL ED 464, 602 Inclusive School Practices: SPEC ED 561, 566 Mathematics and Science Education: MATH/SCI ED 527, 528 Vocational-Technical Education: VOC ED 501, 507 Unspecified: Requisites are identified in consultation with adviser and approval of Director of Graduate Studies in CITE. Electives: Electives are determined and approved in consultation with the academic adviser. Teaching a Second and Foreign Language Master of Science in Education General Statement The M.S. in Ed. in Teaching a Second and Foreign Language meets the specific educational needs of local, national, and international English as a Second Language (ESL) and foreign language teachers. Focused studies on second language issues and foreign language teaching allow graduates of this program to educate an increasingly multilingual population of students. Admissions Requirement A bachelor's degree, a personal goal statement, official transcripts of all previous college or university work (including Temple University), three letters of recommen-dation, and scores from either the general Graduate Record Examination (GRE) or the Miller Analogies Test (MAT) are required of all applicants. A minimum TOEFL score of 230 on the computer-based version (CBT) or 575 on the paper-based version is required for applicants who are not native speakers of English. Most of the students admitted will already hold initial (Instructional I) certification or will not pursue a Pennsylvania teaching certification. Degree Requirements The M.S. in Ed. in Teaching a Second and Foreign Language requires students to complete 30 graduate credits in the following distribution: 18 credits of required courses, six credits of elective second and foreign language courses, and six credits of electives outside of the second and foreign language program. Students in the Teaching a Second and Foreign Language area are required to complete a written comprehensive examination.
