Students will choose one of the following specializations leading up to the doctoral dissertation and complete the work specified in each specialization. The required seminars in each specialization cannot be substituted by other seminars from within the school or outside the school. Students may not take master's level courses in business administration for credit in the doctoral program.

Primary Specialization

Accounting. The required seminars are:

Master of Arts and Doctor of Philosophy -Economics

Admission Requirements

Applicants for admission to the M.A. and Ph.D. programs in Economics must hold a bachelor's degree or equivalent degree from an accredited college or university and must have a minimum undergraduate grade point average of 2.8 overall and 3.0 in the last two years.

Applicants to both programs must submit scores from the general Graduate Record Examination (GRE). In some cases, applicants may substitute scores on the Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT) for the GRE. The scores on each of the three components of the GRE (verbal, quantitative, and analytical) typically fall within the following percentile ranges:

M.A. program

Verbal: 40 to 75
Quantitative: 50 to 96
Analytical: 40 to 86

Ph.D. program

Verbal: 70 to 81
Quantitative: 70 to 99
Analytical: 70 to 92

International students whose native language is not English must submit scores on the TOEFL examination. The minimum score is 230 on the computer-based version (CBT) or 575 on the paper-based version, and the typical range is 250-287 CBT or 600 to 660 paper-based version.

Two letters of recommendation and a statement of goals are required.
