With the permission of the Director of the M.B.A. and M.S. programs, a student may transfer up to six semester hours of graduate work from another institution toward completion of the M.B.A. or M.S. degree if taken prior to entering Temple's M.B.A. or M.S. program. The courses may be no more than three years old at the time of first enrollment, must be complementary to the degree sought, and the student must have received a B or better grade. Courses taken to fulfill the requirements of another degree are not eligible for transfer. Business courses must have been taken at AACSB-accredited schools. Admission Requirements -Healthcare Management The basic admission requirements are the same as they are for the M.B.A or M.S. However, the program must also approve applicants and an interview may be required as a part of this process. Core Curriculum -Healthcare Management Students must demonstrate proficiency in basic business management subjects before proceeding to advanced work. The core requirements are the same as for all M.B.A. or M.S. degree candidates except that Healthcare Management students take HM 510 (HA 500) Health Systems Organization in place of Marketing 401. Advanced Program -Healthcare Management In the advanced portions of the M.B.A. and M.S. programs, students complete a sequence of specialized courses in the major and advanced integrative SBM electives outside the specialized field of concentration. Students also either complete or waive a three month long full-time administrative residency in a health related setting and are typically paid a stipend by the host organizations. More details are provided in the Healthcare Management Graduate Program Handbook. Scholarship Requirements for M.B.A. and M.S. Degrees Each student must earn a B average in
A student may take a maximum of two additional graduate courses in order to meet the B average requirement. In computing a student's average, all grades will be used. Also see the Graduate School "Standards of Scholarship" listed under General Requirements in this Bulletin. Incomplete grades should be completed within one year. Students may not graduate with an "I," "NR," or "MG" on their transcripts. Additional requirements can be found in the Student Handbook. All master's degree requirements must be completed within six years of matriculation. Reinstatement Students dropped for academic reasons may petition for reinstatement during the calendar year in which they receive the termination letter. Petitions for reinstatement should be sent to the Graduate Board Appeals Committee at the Graduate School. The student may not register for courses during the semester in which he/she received the letter of termination without special permission from the Graduate School. In case the letter is received after the beginning of the semester, permission will be needed to remain in class. Students, once reinstated, will be dropped should they receive another grade below "B-." Master of Science -Business Administration Direct inquiries to: Linda J. Whelan, Director, M.B.A. and M.S. Program Goals and Areas of Study The Master of Science in Business Administration is designed for students with bachelor's degrees in business who want to enhance their careers by obtaining additional training and advanced degrees in specialized functional areas of business. The following concentrations are available in the Master's of Science (Business Administration) program:
Students applying for admission to the M.S. program must hold a bachelor's degree or its equivalent from an accredited institution of higher learning. Students applying for admission must submit transcripts of all previous college work (including Temple University), the results of the Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT) or the general Graduate Record Examination (GRE), and two letters of recommendation, and must specify their major field. Admission to the M.S. program is a competitive process in which the candidate's ability, aptitude, and career interests are assessed by the Graduate Admissions Committee. In general, the Committee expects the candidate to have an excellent academic record, a GRE or GMAT score which reflects his or her ability to achieve success in a graduate business program, and evidence that the student has the potential to succeed in a business or managerial environment. Students not adequately prepared for the advanced level may be required the take a number of M.B.A. core courses. The department offering the courses in the area of specialization will identify the core requirements on a case-by-case basis. Advanced A student must complete a minimum of 10 graduate courses (500-level or above) beyond the core curriculum; at least five courses (a minimum of 15 semester hours) must be chosen at the 500-level or above in the selected field of concentration; at least three electives outside the concentration; and a capstone experience. A demonstration of proficiency or capstone experience will be required for each concentration. Examples of a capstone experience could include a departmental capstone course, practicum with a paper, comprehensive examination, or BA 950, Business Policy. Please call Linda J. Whelan, Director of the M.B.A. and M.S. programs for current information on approved M.S. options. Scholarship Requirements Each student must earn a B average in
