Executive Master of Business Administration

Direct inquiries to Donna Ferrari, Director, Full Time M.B.A. Programs , Speakman Hall LL5, Temple University, 1801 North 13th Street Street, Philadelphia, PA 19122, (215) 204-7279. E-mail:dferrari@sbm.temple.edu

General Statement

The Executive M.B.A. (EMBA) Program at Temple University, established in 1985, provides a stimulating educational experience for managers who currently hold or are seeking top-level positions in small, mid-sized, and large companies. Eligible candidates also include entrepreneurs, technical experts, and professionals in non-profit, government, or public sector organizations. Successful candidates earn an AACSB-accredited M.B.A. in 21 months by attending classes one day a week on alternating Fridays and Saturdays, enabling them to maintain full-time job responsibilities. Classes are held at the Eagle Lodge Executive Conference Center in Lafayette Hill, PA. There are three terms per year, fall, spring, and summer. Appli-cants are considered for fall admission only.

Each class progresses through a highly integrated program comprised of 16 se-quential graduate level courses. Participants in the program are from various back-grounds and professions and bring with them a variety of managerial experience and skills. All candidates must be sponsored by their organizations. Sponsorship means agreement to allow the candidates to attend classes on scheduled Fridays and usually includes tuition support. However, some students do pay their own tuition.

Admissions Requirements

Admission to the EMBA Program is a competitive process in which each candidate's experience, aptitude, potential, and managerial skills are assessed. Enrollment is limited, and participants are chosen with care. All applicants should have at least ten years work experience - five of which have been in management - a bachelor's degree, employer sponsorship, letters of recommendation, and scores from the Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT). An optional admissions interview may be scheduled once all application materials have been received. There is a separate application form for the EMBA Program.

Due to the special nature of the EMBA curriculum, all course credits must be taken within the program. Previous graduate work in business may enhance performance in the program, but credits are not transferable.

General Statement

The International MBA (IMBA) Program at Temple University was established in 1994 in cooperation with our partner institution, Institute Gestion Sociale (IGS) University in Paris. This unique, three-continent program provides a dramatic new approach to international business education, exposing the students to the world's three most important business regions - the European Union, the United States, and Japan - in the course of the eleven month program. Students begin with four months at IGS in Paris, move on to Temple's Main Campus in Philadelphia for six months, and complete the program at Temple's Tokyo campus for the final month. This limited enrollment program accepts only students who have already completed the basic business core curriculum. Applicants are considered for fall admission only. All classes are taught in English.

Each class progresses through the highly integrated lock-step program as a cohort. The courses, designed specifically for the IMBA, are not available to students in other programs. The faculty have all been selected for their international experience, and include:

  • several of the leading teachers and researchers in the SBM. Highlights of the IMBA include a mentoring program, which provides each student individual contacts with senior executives in multinational firms in the industry of his/her choice both in Paris and Philadelphia (executives from over 150 firms have participated in the program's first five years),
  • a "live" strategic management team consulting project with a multinational firm in the Philadelphia area or elsewhere (recent cases have also come from Russia and from Israel, where we have a working relationship with Ben Gurion University to work on high technology entrepreneurial projects),
  • a "live" team human resource project in Paris, and
  • several special classes that focus on the important differences in the business and social cultures of different regions of the world.
