Master of Education
Admission Requirements
- an undergraduate degree with a dance major or emphasis, related major,
or equivalent professional experience;
- an undergraduate grade point average of 2.8 overall or 3.0 in the
last two years;
- completion of a written questionnaire addressing the applicant's personal
point of view on issues related to graduate study in dance;
- an audition that includes a technique class and choreography showing;
- a live or videotaped presentation of research, advocacy or outreach
work;
- interviews with two members of the admissions committee;
- standardized test scores on either the Graduate Record Examination
(GRE) or Miller Analogies Test (MAT preferred);
- Curriculum vitae or résumé;
- three letters of recommendation.
Degree Requirements
The completion of 33 semester hours is required;
21 of these are used to develop competencies and understandings in the
field of dance and art education, 9 to extend resources in order fields,
and 3 to complete a professional project in dance. One year of full-time
residency, including participation in core courses D505, D506, D576, and
D676 is required.
Continuous Enrollment and Time Limits
Student must enroll every fall and spring
semester between matriculation and graduation unless on an approved leave
of absence. Only registered students may use Temple University resources,
including libraries and faculty supervision of independent projects.
Students must complete all degree requirements within four years. Master's
Continuing Research (962) can be used to satisfy registration requirements
once all course requirements are completed.

of Fine Arts
Admission Requirements
- an undergraduate degree with a dance major or emphasis, or equivalent
professional experience;
- an undergraduate grade point average of 2.8 overall or 3.0 in the
last two years;
- completion of a written questionnaire addressing the applicant's personal
point of view on issues related to graduate study in dance;
- an audition that includes a modern technique class;
- A presentation of recent choreography, research, advocacy or outreach
work;
- interviews with two members of the admissions committee;
- standardized test scores on either the Graduate Record Examination
(GRE) or Miller Analogies Test (MAT preferred);
- Curriculum vitae or résumé;
- three letters of recommendation.
Degree Requirements
The completion of 60 semester hours is required; the curriculum
extends the dance competencies and understandings, enhances resources
in other fields, and requires the choreography and production of a professional
dance concert. A minimum of two years of full-time residency, including
participation in core courses D505, D506, D515, and D539, are required.
Continuous Enrollment and Time Limits
Student must enroll every fall and spring semester between matriculation
and graduation unless on an approved leave of absence. Only registered
students may use Temple University resources, including libraries and
faculty supervision of independent projects.
Students must complete all degree requirements within four years.
Students who cannot satisfy the continuous enrollment requirement must
obtain a leave of absence from the Department Chairperson to remain in
good academic standing. Students who fail to complete their program requirements
within the specified time limit must obtain an extension of time from
the Department.
Doctor of Philosophy
Admission Requirements
- Aapplication that provides information on professional goals, research
interests, and past research examples;
- Curriculum vitae that details experience in dance, art, education,
scholarship and public leadership;
- An undergraduate grade point average of 2.8 overall or 3.0 in the
last two years;
- Transcripts which show a foundational knowledge of dance with a graduate
GPA of 3.4 or above;
- Scores from either the general Graduate Record Examination (GRE) or
Miller Analogy Test (MAT);
- A scholarly paper prepared in the recent past or in response to a
question posed by the Department of Dance;
- Three letters of recommendation from a qualified representative of
the academic community in a field associated with the applicant's field
of study;
- An interview with at least two doctoral faculty in dance.
Degree Requirements
Students must complete a minimum of 70 semester hours of graduate
level course work (master's degree of 30 credits, plus 40 of doctoral
work) either by fulfilling core requirements in dance education, supplemented
and extended by courses and research in dance, or by contracting an
individualized program in dance and related fields with the assistance
and approval of an adviser and graduate faculty committee. Comprehensive
examinations, a dissertation and residency requirements must be fulfilled
successfully. One year of full-time residency, including participation
in core courses, D505, D506, D560, D576, D580, D601, D951, and D956
are required.
Two years of full-time residency are encouraged. Refer to "General
Requirements for Doctoral Programs" in this Bulletin for
additional information.
