Master's Degree Examinations

A. Diagnostic Examinations: Master of Music

Master's degree students must take the Diagnostic Examinations prior to the first semester of graduate study. Based upon the Examination results, those students who place into the Aural Theory 042 level (two semesters of remediation) and/or have greater than three periods of Music History remediation must register for the remedial classes during the first semester of study. Any remaining portions of the examination that have not been passed must be re-taken prior to the second semester of coursework. Students may not register for a third semester of graduate-level coursework until the Diagnostic Examinations have been successfully completed or the appropriate review courses (or the equivalent, as determined by the Theory Department) are in progress. Additionally, students are to have passed the Counterpoint and Harmony Diagnostics to take a graduate-level Music Theory course.
