What We Do
The Graduate School oversees all facets of graduate education at Temple University. It is responsible for admitting students who meet university requirements and recommending to The Board of Trustees the awarding of graduate degrees. The Dean of the Graduate School also reviews the qualifications of those faculty members appointed as “Graduate Faculty.”
In addition, the Graduate School oversees the quality of new and continuing graduate programs, monitors standards of scholarship, maintains student records, and verifies advancement to candidacy. In concert with the Graduate Board, the Graduate School establishes and maintains admissions and degree requirements in consultation with the deans of the schools and colleges and their graduate councils. Finally, the Graduate School administers policies established by the Graduate Board and the University.
Who Can Help
The staff of the Graduate School is available to answer questions and respond to concerns from both prospective and enrolled students. It is recommended, however, that challenges first be addressed at the department level. If the graduate secretary cannot offer a resolution, the student is advised to contact the department chair. A list of current department chairs is available through the Office of the Provost. If a resolution is still not attained, the student should contact the appropriate Assistant or Associate Dean of the school/college. The Office of the Provost also maintains a list of Assistant and Associate Deans. If all else fails, the student should contact the appropriate staff member of the Graduate School.
