Admission Requirements and Deadlines

Application Deadline:

Fall: April 1                                    [December 15 for international applicants]

Spring: October 1                                 [August 1 for international applicants]

Applications are processed together after the deadline date.

Letters of Reference:

Number Required: 3

From Whom:  Letters of recommendation should be obtained from former and current professors who can provide insight into the applicant's abilities and talents and can comment on the applicant’s aptitude for graduate study.  If already working in the field, the applicant may include letters from professional colleagues.

Coursework Required for Admission Consideration:

All applicants must present credentials that are the equivalent of the appropriate baccalaureate degree at Temple University.

Bachelor's Degree in Discipline/Related Discipline:

Typically, the applicant must have a baccalaureate degree and initial teacher certification in Mathematics Education.

Statement of Goals:

The Statement of Goals should be approximately 500-1,000 words in length and should indicate your goals and objectives for obtaining a master’s degree in Mathematics Education.  The statement should also include the following elements:  your specific interest in Temple’s program; your research goals; your future career goals; and your academic and research achievements .

Standardized Test Scores:

The GRE/MAT is required.  It is expected that the scores will generally be at or above the 50th percentile.

About the Program

The M.S.Ed. with a concentration in Mathematics Education is viewed as a master teacher program providing advanced study for math educators who already hold initial teacher certification.

Time Limit for Degree Completion: 4 years

Some elective courses are offered at the Ambler, Harrisburg, and Center City campuses.

Full-Time/Part-Time Status:

Students are able to complete the degree program on a part-time basis (8 credit hours or less per semester) through classes offered after 4:30 p.m.
