Anatomy and Cell Biology

 

5151. Cell Structure and Function   (4 s.h.)

The goal of the course is to provide a basic understanding of the structural and spatial organization of cells at the micro anatomical level and how this relates to the function of cells, tissues and organ systems; microscopes and computer based learning will be employed. Registration for all courses is subject to prior departmental approval.

8191. Cell Biology Lab Rotation (1 to 3 s.h.)

Laboratory research for students in the masters program; mentor selected. Registration for all courses is subject to prior departmental approval.

9100. Seminars in Cell Biology (1 to 3 s.h.)

Weekly meeting in which participants discuss their research or current papers of special interest from the current literature on cell and developmental biological issues. Registration for all courses is subject to prior departmental approval.

9101. Bioinformatics (3 s.h.)

The goal of the course is to demonstrate the application of basic computational biological techniques (analysis of sequence information) to modern molecular and proteomic research at the bench. Registration for all courses is subject to prior departmental approval.

9102. Musculoskeletal Biology (3 s.h.)

The goal of the course is to provide the fundamental elements of the musculoskeletal system including embryology, histology, cell and molecular biology, genetics of muscle, tendon, and bone. Registration for all courses is subject to prior departmental approval.

 

9103. Neuroanatomy   (4 s.h.)

Students should have a good prior knowledge of gross human anatomy, especially of the peripheral nervous system. The focus is on human neuroanatomy, with emphasis on the central nervous system. Clinical problem solving and case presentations are employed. Registration for all courses is subject to prior departmental approval.

9104. Readings in Cell Biology and Developmental Biology (1 to 3 s.h.)

Students and faculty review in depth current articles in cell and developmental biology that relate to their proposed area of research. Registration for all courses is subject to prior departmental approval.

9105. Cell Biology Lab Research Techniques (1 to 3 s.h.)

A student in the masters program will register for this course to obtain training in cellular and molecular biological techniques. Registration for all courses is subject to prior departmental approval.

9106. Human Gross Anatomy   (6 s.h.)

A conference-laboratory course correlating basic, normal, adult structure with development, function and clinical application. Laboratory work consists of a complete dissection of the body. Registration for all courses is subject to prior departmental approval.

9191. Anatomical Research   (1 to 9 s.h.)

A student in the PhD program will register for this course to obtain training in cellular and molecular biological techniques. A student will register for this course when he/she has not yet completed course work and has not been elevated to candidacy. Registration for all courses is subject to prior departmental approval.

9991. PhD Dissertation Research(1 to 6 s.h.)

Laboratory research for students in the PhD program; mentor selected, pre-candidacy. Registration for all courses is subject to prior departmental approval.

9998. Post Candidacy Research (1 to 6 s.h.)

Laboratory research for students in the PhD program; post-candidacy. Registration for all courses is subject to prior departmental approval.

9999. Dissertation Writing (1 to 6 s.h.)

Dissertation writing for students in the PhD program. Registration for all courses is subject to prior departmental approval.
