The Esther Boyer College of Music offers the Master of Music
in Opera Performance, Voice Performance, and the Doctor of Musical Arts in Voice
Performance. The Master of Music degree in Opera Performance is designed to prepare
qualified performers for professional careers as singer-actors on both national and
international operatic stages. Only singers who demonstrate outstanding potential
for the operatic stage both vocally and dramatically are admitted to the program.
The program prepares students through a systematic approach to vocal technique,
specialized studies in operatic literature, the refinement of language and diction skills,
the development of acting techniques, the continued refinement of musical and theoretical
skills, advanced studies in musical style and performance practice, and the provision of
operatic performance opportunities designed to emulate a professional environment.
The Master of Voice Performance degree program prepares
singers for multifaceted careers as well-rounded performers on concert and operatic
stages, and as teachers of voice. The program prepares students through a systematic
approach to vocal technique, the continued refinement of musical and theoretical skills,
advanced studies in musical style and performance practice, specialized studies in vocal
literature, the refinement of language and diction skills, the development of acting
techniques, and the provision of recital, operatic, and concert performance opportunities
designed to emulate a professional environment.
The Doctor of Musical Arts in Performance fosters growth and
development of the highest and most sophisticated expression of musical interpretation
through performance under the guidance of a very highly specialized faculty. Diverse
areas of study are included to assure the broadest possible cultivation of students'
talents.
The Master of Music in Opera Performance and Master of Music
in Voice Performance consists of 30 credit hours of course work ordinarily taken over a
period of two years. The Doctor of Musical Arts in Voice Performance consists of 55 credit
hours of course work ordinarily taken over a period of between four to five years.
All classes are offered on the Main campus.
