Pathology
The School of Medicine offers the Doctor of Philosophy
(Ph.D.) degree in Pathology within the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine.
The areas of formal study include molecular biology, molecular genetics, infectious
diseases, immunology, biochemistry, histology, general human pathology and systematic
human pathology. The program is designed to prepare individuals for advanced
academic, biotechnologic, pharmaceutical, and educational/teaching positions. The
current areas of faculty research interest include disease genetics, cancer, aging, DNA
repair, immune-mediated diseases, mammalian development, transplantation biology and
signal tranduction mechanisms.
The Ph.D. program in Pathology consists of 30 credit hours of
formal course work, 24 credit hours of research seminar work and designated credit hours
of research laboratory work. the program accepts only full-time students and is
conducted on a year-round basis. Students are required to be enrolled during the
Fall, Spring, and Summer semesters of each year, and the program is ordinarily completed
over a period of six years. This program is currently offered at the Temple
University Health Sciences Center.
