Molecular Biology
The School of Medicine offers the Doctor of Philosophy degree
in Molecular Biology. The Ph.D. program in Molecular Biology and Genetics at the
School of Medicine is an interdisciplinary program directed by faculty from the Fels
Institute, with participation from faculty in other University departments. There
are five major areas of specialization in basic science research; Molecular Genetics,
Virology, Cell Biology and Immunology. There are two concentrations in clinical
research; Molecular Diagnosis and Gene Therapy. Recent graduates are currently
employed in government, industry and academia.
Completion of the Ph.D. in the Molecular Biology and Genetics
program requires both 30 semester-hours of coursework and the successful defense of the
thesis research project. Advanced standing for graduate work completed may be
considered. The program generally takes at least five years to complete. All
students must be enrolled full-time and courses are offered at Temple University's Health
Sciences campus.
