The Esther Boyer College of Music offers the Master of Music
in Harpsichord Performance, the Master of Music in Piano Performance, and the Doctor of
Musical Arts in Performance.
The Master of Music in Harpsichord Performance provides
professional training and experiences in the performance of solo and ensemble music.
Study includes repertoire from the earliest use of the harpsichord through the
present. Technique, historical performance practices, research, figured bass, and an
understanding of harpsichord maintenance and repair provide thorough preparation for a
professional career in the field.
The Master of Music in Piano Performance is designed to serve
pianists of considerable musical and technical expertise, expanding their musical and
pianistic development with an eye toward one or more of the following: pursuing doctoral
studies in performance, teaching students who have already achieved an advanced level of
proficiency themselves, or performing at a high level in any number of capacities, such as
soloist, chamber musician, accompanist, rehearsal pianist, or member of a large ensemble.
The Doctor of Musical Arts in Performance fosters growth and
development of the highest and most sophisticated expression of musical interpretation
through performance under the guidance of a very highly specialized faculty. Diverse
areas of study are included to assure the broadest possible cultivation and expansion of
students' talents.
The Master of Music in Music in Harpsichord Performance and
the Master of Music in Piano Performance requires 30 hours of coursework ordinarily taken
over a period of two years. The Doctor of Musical Arts in Piano Performance consists
of 55 credits and is ordinarily taken over a period of four to five years. All
classes are offered on the Main campus.
