Counseling Psychology
The Department of Psychological Studies in Education offers a
Master of Education and Doctor of Philosophy degree in Counseling Psychology. The
program prepares professional psychologists and counselors, those who can form
relationships with clients which enable them to develop emotional survival skills, achieve
self-awareness, and adapt more successfully. Master's candidates in Counseling
Psychology select among elementary, secondary, and community rehabilitation counseling.
This program may lead to state certification. Doctoral areas of study include
counseling processes with an emphasis on instructional, behavioral, and skills.
There is also an emphasis on research methodology.
The Master of Education requires a minimum 60 semester hours,
supervised field experience in a school or community agency, and a written comprehensive
examination. The Doctor of Philosophy degree requires a minimum 90 semester hours, a
preliminary examination, dissertation, final oral examination, residency, and internship.
Credits achieved towards the completion of a masters degree may be applied towards
the doctorate. All courses are offered at Temple University's Main Campus.
