Cell Biology

The Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology in the School of Medicine, in conjunction with the School of Business, offers a Masters of Science degree in Cell Biology with a Certificate in Business (CBB).  The goal of this program is to train students for biomedical research management positions in the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries.  Although many Anatomy and Cell Biology Departments around the country offer masters degree programs, this program would be unique in combining cell and molecular biology research skills with courses in business in a succinct amount of time, and has the enthusiastic support (internship training) of the private sector where these students seek to gain employment.

A minimum of 32 semester hours, exclusive of thesis research, is required for this 2 year M.S. degree.  Required courses for the cell and molecular biology segment of the program are as follows: Ilistology, Cell Biology, Basic Embryology, Cell and Developmental Biology Seminar (every semester), Industry Laboratory Research (internship), Cell Biology Laboratory Research Techniques and Cell Biology Project Research (every second year), Principles of Development, Recombinant DNA Techniques in Molecular Biology.  Required courses for the business segment of the program are: Accounting, Human Resource Administration, Marketing, and General and Strategic Management.
