Biology

The Department of Biology offers M.A. and Ph.D. degrees.   Program offerings place strong emphasis in laboratory research in the following areas: Molecular Biology/Genetics/Biochemistry, Cell Biology/Development, Physiology/Neurobiology/Behavior.   Opportunities for multidisciplinary work abound, e.g. in the Center for Neurovirology and Cancer Biology.  Both prepare students for careers in research, education and technology in academic, industrial and governmental organizations and laboratories.

The master's degree requires a minimum of 24 credits which must include the Ph.D. core courses.   Students must also complete a 3 semester-hour seminar and a thesis.  Students typically complete the degree in 2-3 years.  M.A. candidates may petition for transfer in the Ph.D. program, but must do so by the end of their third semester.  The Ph.D. degree requires a minimum of 24 credits beyond the masters.  Advanced standing for graduate work completed is evaluated on a case by case basis.  The program is for full time students only.   All Ph.D. students must teach for at least two semesters.  All classes are held on Temple University's Main Campus.
