Art Education
Tyler School of Art offers graduate studies in art education,
studio art, and art history leading to the Master of Education with a Major in Art
degree. This program is designed for the practicing art teacher or supervisor of
elementary or secondary art, as well as the individual with an undergraduate art
background seeking professional preparation to teach art.
The M.Ed. with a Major in Art is granted upon successful
completion of 33 credits. The M.Ed. can be pursued on a full or part-time basis.
The Master's degree should be completed within four years of the matriculation
date. The M.Ed. degree, without certification, can be earned in three semesters of
full-time study. M.Ed. candidates may pursue Teaching Certification concurrently
with their graduate studies. The M.Ed. with Teaching Certification Program requires
44-47 credits, along with successful completion of the state required PRAXIS and Art
Education Examinations, and provides all of the requirements for Pennsylvania State
Certification in Art, kindergarten through twelfth grade.
Tyler School of Art is an accredited member of the National
Association of Schools of Art and Design, National Architectural Accrediting Board, and
the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools.
