Anatomy and Cell Biology

The Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology in the School of Medicine offers graduate work leading to the Ph.D. or M.D./Ph.D. degree.  The goal of our graduate program is to prepare students for biomedical careers in academia, government or industry.  Research training is focused on organization and function at the molecular, cell and organ level.  There are four areas of concentration in this program.  They are skeletal biology, cardiovascular biology, reproductive biology and neurobiology.  In addition, our program provides interested students with the opportunity to gain experience in studying and teaching the anatomical sciences to professional students.

A minimum of 30 semester hours, exclusive of dissertation research, is required for the Ph.D.  The course work for each student is carefully considered upon admission to the program.  The courses required and recommended are based on the students future goals  (teaching at both the university and medical school level and/or research, and their previous education and experiences).   Advanced standing for graduate work completed is considered on a case by case basis.  The program is available to full-time students only.  All classes are held at Temple's Health Sciences Campus.
