Kinesiology
The Department of Kinesiology offers the Master of Education
and Doctor of Philosophy degrees in Kinesiology. There are two major concentrations:
Behavioral Sciences (Curriculum and Instruction and the Psychology of Human Movement,
including Exercise and Sport Psychology) and Somatic Sciences (Athletic Training/Sports
Medicine and Exercise Physiology). The degrees are designed to prepare students for
careers in a variety of settings, from educational institutions to applied settings.
The M.Ed. degree requires a minimum of 36 semester-hours of
course work within one of four options: thesis, project, clinical internship/practicum, or
comprehensive examinations. The Ph.D. degree requires a minimum of 72
semester-hours, plus a minimum of 10 semester-hours for the comprehensive examinations and
the dissertation. Students in the Ph.D. program may receive advanced standing for a
completed master's degree of up to 30 semester-hours, depending on course work.
Average amount of time to degree is 2-3 years for the M.Ed. degree and 5 years for the
Ph.D. degree. The master's and doctoral programs may be undertaken on a part-time or
full-time basis. The programs are offered on Temple University's Main campus.

The master's program in athletic training is accredited by
the national Athletic Trainers' Association (NATA).
