Journalism
The Master of Journalism degree is offered within the
Department of Journalism, Public Relations and Advertising in the School of Communications
and Theater. This program is designed for those students seeking a mass
communications career that requires writing. There are a number of concentration
options within this program. These are worked out in consultation with academic
advisors on the M.J. faculty or through contact with the M.J. committee chaired by the
program director. Accordingly, the M.J. is a professional degree offering advanced
training in traditional as well as web-based media, including newspaper, magazine,
broadcast, public relations and advertising applications. Particular emphasis is in
the areas of writing, editing, publishing, broadcast production, law and ethics and public
relations.
The M.J. program consists of 40 hours of graduate course
work. The program is available to both full-time and part-time students.
Full-time students should be able to complete this program in two years. Courses
are offered on the University's Main campus, Center City campus, and in Harrisburg.
The Department of Journalism, Public Relations and
Advertising is accredited by the Accrediting Council on Education for Journalism and Mass
Communications.
