Bachelor of Science Requirements for the Major

The biochemistry degree consists of fundamental biology and chemistry courses plus biochemistry lecture and laboratory courses: Chemistry 4401 (Biochemistry I), Biology 4376 (General Biochemistry II), and Biology 4344 (Research Techniques in Biochemistry).   In addition to these, the following courses are required:  Calculus I, II, III; General Chemistry I, II with labs; Organic Chemistry I, II with labs; calculus-based physics I, II; Biology 1111, 2112, 2296*, 3096, 3324; Chemistry 3105, 3196*, 3301; two biochemistry electives selected from the following: Biology 3201, 3265, 3301, 3317, 3325, 3327, 3328, 3334, 3352, 3363, 3367, 3371, 3374, 3380; Chemistry 3302, 4001, 4196, 4201, 4405.

 

Writing Intensive Requirement for Bachelor of Science

Students must take a minimum of two writing-intensive courses as part of the major.  Following is a list of courses that can be used to satisfy the writing-intensive requirement:  Biology 2296*, Biology 3096, Chemistry 3196*, or Chemistry 4196.

Distinction in major

To graduate with Distinction in Major, students are required to achieve a 3.33 GPA or higher in all the Biology and Chemistry courses in their major.
