0670. Introduction to Cognitive Assessment   (4 s.h.)

Prerequisite: Permission of instructor.

Intensive overview and training with diagnostic instruments of cognitive abilities. Practice with specific tests in the above area. Discussion of theories of cognitive functioning and intelligence testing.

0671. Advanced Cognitive Assessment   (4 s.h.)

Prerequisite: Permission of instructor, Sch Psy 670.

Intensive overview and training with addiitional diagnostic instruments of cognitive abilities. Emphasis on assessment of children from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds and assessment of young children (birth to 6).

0672. Personality and Psychotherapy   (3 s.h.)

Includes major theories of personality and psychotherapy and applications to personality assessment including projective testing in the schools.

0673. Introduction of Diagnostic Process   (3 s.h.)

Prerequisite: Permission of instructor.

Discussion of the integration of data from case histories, interviews and tests in making differential diagnosis. Comprehensive study of skills in interviewing and report writing. Evaluation of perceptual motor skills, achievement, and brief personality assessment as well as an overview of the major diagnostic categories in the schools. Major emphasis on conceptualizing and writing recommendations for educational remediation.

0674. Assessment of Personality & Behavior   (3 s.h.)

Prerequisite: Sch. Psy. 670, 672, 673 or permission of instructor.

Intensive training with diagnostic instruments of personality, both objective and projective. Discussion of educational planning and remedial techniques in relation to personality and behavioral dynamics of children. Emphasis also on theoretical constructs in understanding learning and behavioral difficulties in children.

0675. Advanced Psychoeducational Assessment   (3 s.h.)

Prerequisite: Sch. Psy. 671, 674 or permission of instructor.

Comprehensive child study with emphasis on personality assessment. Practice with a variety of procedures for studying personality organization of children. Emphasis on the use of projective procedures, especially the Rorschach.

0676. Applied Behavior Analysis   (3 s.h.)

Introduction to the functional analysis of behavior of children in the school setting. Includes behavior theory, assessment, interaction, and evaluation. A behavior-change program is conducted.

0677. School Consultation   (3 s.h.)

Prerequisite: Prerequisites: Sch. Psy. 676 or permission of instructor.

Extensive school practicum experience consulting with teachers regarding behavior analysis, instructional consultation, and mental health consultation; focuses on the process variables which facilitate effective teacher consultation. Must be taken fall and spring as a year-long sequence.

0770. Seminar: Role & Function of the School Psychologist   (3 s.h.)

Analysis of role and functions of school psychologists. Study of relevant research dealing with varied roles the school psychologist can play within the school system. Consideration of ethical practices in school psychology. Required of all certification students. Open to non-matriculated students who wish to find out about the field of school psychology.

0771. Seminar: Social Psychology of the School   (3 s.h.)

Discussion of principles of social psychology as applied to the school as an institution. Emphasis on the psychology of planned educational change. Theoretical bases of the process of change and innovation within the schools. Rationale for intervention strategies

0772. Seminar: Analytic Study of Teaching   (3 s.h.)

In-depth consideration of teacher efficacy and observational techniques in education.

0773. Topical Seminar in School Psychology   (1-6 s.h.)

Special topics of interest to the school psychologist discussed. Topics may include therapeutic problems, school discipline problems, parenting and remediation strategies. Different topics each semester.

0774. Seminar in Residency   (3 s.h.)

For residency students involving research, discussion, and projects related to professional developments in school psychology and social policy issues. Mandatory for doctoral students.

0775. Ethical & Legal Problems   (3 s.h.)

Ethical and legal issues in the administration of individual tests, establishment of counseling relationships, handling of psychological records, and consultative relationships with school personnel, testifying in court and educational hearings. Licensing procedures discussed.

0777. Psychotherapeutic Strategies   (3 s.h.)

Prerequisite: Sch. Psy. 770, 771, or permission of instructor.

A study of the application of psychotherapeutic techniques to the school setting. Emphasis is on group techniques.

0778. Psychoeducational Clinic   (3-12 s.h.)

Prerequisite: Sch Psy 670, 671, 672, 673, 674, 676..

A practicum course providing supervised training in psychoeducational assessment and counseling of children with learning problems. Open only to matriculated school psychology students.

0779. Seminar in School Psychology   (3 s.h.)

Prerequisite: Sch Psy 670, 671, 672, 673, 674, 676.

Case studies by the student in the Psychoeducational Clinic (taken concurrently) are reviewed in depth. Assessment, interviews, diagnosis and remedial strategies are covered. Open only to matriculated school psychology students.

0780. Psychoeducational Clinic   (3 s.h.)

A practicum course providing supervised training in psychoeducational assessment and counseling of children with learning problems.

0781. Seminar on Children with Low Incidence Disabilities   (3 s.h.)

Prerequisite: Sch. Psy. 778, 779 or 780 or permission of instructor.

Simultaneous registration in Sch. Psy. 782 (3 s.h.) required. Lecture and practice with special tests and rating scales of intelligence, perception, personality, and development of children with low incidence disabilities including blindness, deafness, autism, mental retardation, and multiple disabilities. Open to matriculated school psychology students only.

0782. Practicum on Children with Low Incidence Disabilities   (3-6 s.h.)

Simultaneous registration in Sch Psy 781 is required. Supervied experience in conducting evaluations of children with low incidence disabilities. Involves site visits to approved private schools and inclusive public school settings serving children with disabilities. Open to matriculated school psychology students only.

0876. Organization & Administration of School Psychological Services   (3 s.h.)

Designed to help school psychologists plan effective psychological services for the school. Consideration of theoretical and practical issues in organizational development. Focus on the application of psychological theory to a broad spectrum of school issues.

0878. Internship in School Psychology   (1-12 s.h.)

Prerequisite: Permission of instructor.

Supervised internship as a full-time school psychologist in an approved school system.

0879. Internship in School Psychology   (1-12 s.h.)

Prerequisite: Permission of instructor.

Supervised internship as a full-time school psychologist in an approved school system.

0880. Field Experience in Supervision in School Psychology   (3-6 s.h.)

A practicum course providing advanced students with experience in supervising students in clinic and internship. Enrollees must be certified and obtain approval of the department.

0989. Independent Study in School Psychology   (1-6 s.h.)

Intended to meet the needs of students in school psychology who desire to carry on an individual investigation. Required for all master's students who wish to complete a project for the Ed.M. degree.

0999. Doctoral Dissertation   (3-9 s.h.)

Registration limited to candidates for the doctorate who have successfully completed the preliminary examination and the minimum number of semester hours required for the degree. Continuous registration during the fall and spring terms is required until the dissertation has been completed and accepted by the Graduate School.
