Temple University uses nationally and locally constructed surveys and questionnaires to measure students' experiences, perceptions, and engagement with the university.
Multipurpose Facility/Stadium Survey
In April 2018, all degree-seeking undergraduate, graduate and professional Temple students (excluding Japan and Rome) were invited to participate in the Multipurpose Facility/Stadium Survey designed by Temple Student Government to explore the perspectives of the student body on the proposed multipurpose facility/stadium. The survey was disseminated by Institutional Research and Assessment.
Temple New Student Questionnaire
Temple's New Student Questionnaire (NSQ) is administered to all entering freshmen and transfer students who take the university's Placement Examination. The results of the questionnaire are used to monitor trends in student characteristics, attitudes, intentions, and aspirations.
Temple University Student Questionnaire
The Temple University Student Questionnaire (TUSQ) is administered to all matriculated undergraduates. The TUSQ:
- measures students' perceptions of Temple's academic, social, and administrative programs
- gathers information about students' participation in various university and non-university activities
- monitors change in students' attitudes, activities, and needs over time
- provides data for assessing factors related to students' success
Temple last administered the TUSQ in the Spring of 2018. The TUSQ is administered online and students receive all communications electronically. The reports below are reflective of the 2018 administration.
National Survey of Student Engagement
The National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE) collects information from samples of first-year and senior students about the nature and quality of their undergraduate experience. Scores are summarized using ten engagement indicators which examine dimensions of student engagement and are organized within four themes: Academic Challenge, Learning with Peers, Experience with Faculty and Campus Environment.
Temple participated in the Spring 2011, 2013 and 2016 NSSE administrations. The NSSE is administered via the web, and students receive all communications electronically and complete the survey online.
Temple University Graduate Student Survey
The Temple University Graduate Student Survey (GSS) was launched for the first time in Spring, 2016. The survey is based on the undergraduate Temple University Student Questionnaire (TUSQ), with changes to make it more relevant for a graduate student population. Similar to the TUSQ, GSS is designed to measure student perceptions and experiences while at Temple. Unlike the TUSQ, which is administered every 3 years, we intend to administer the GSS every 2 years in order to ensure that we gather information from graduate students enrolled in 2 year programs. GSS is designed to measure graduate student satisfaction across the following areas: Academic Program, Funding, Student Services, Student Experience, Reasons for Enrolling at Temple, Challenges, Advising and Mentoring, Post-Graduation plans, and Online/Hybrid Experience. Below is the 2018 Temple University Graduate Student Survey report. Contact IRA to view the appendices referenced in the report.
