Coursework Required for Admission Consideration:
If necessary, the following prerequisites may be taken in the Summer prior to beginning the master's degree program:
HIM 5001: Topics in HIM
HIM 5002: Topics in Clinical Information
HIM 5003: Management Systems in Healthcare
Bachelor's Degree in Discipline/Related Discipline:
A baccalaureate degree or its equivalent, as recognized by Temple University, from an accredited post-secondary institution is required.
Statement of Goals:
The Statement of Goals should
address your interest in obtaining the degree and how it will meet your career goals. The
essay must demonstrate professional writing ability.
Standardized Test Scores:
The GRE is required. Quantitative and verbal scores on the GRE should be in the 50th percentile or above.
Minimum TOEFL score needed to be accepted: 550 paper-based, 213 computer-based, or 79 internet-based.
Interview:
An
interview with Health Informatics departmental faculty
is required.

About the Program
The innovative, interdisciplinary, and state-of-the-art M.S. in Health Informatics (HIM) program is an applied graduate degree that focuses on the design, development, and implementation of electronic health record (EHR) systems in health care to serve the tenets of patient privacy, quality of care, and research. The M.S. in HIM is designed for physicians, nurses, therapists, health information management practitioners, administrators, or information technology professionals. The program is offered in collaboration with the Department of Management Information Systems in the Fox School of Business and Management.

Full-Time/Part-Time Status:
This program for working professionals is designed for part-time study. Classes are offered weekday evenings. Although some courses may be offered online, the interaction between disciplines from both the faculty and student perspectives is a key component of the degree's design.

The curriculum meets the curricular requirements of the Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management Education (CAHIIM), which is the accrediting body of the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA). It is expected that Temple University wll have one of the first accredited master's programs in the nation.

Non-Degree Student Policy:
Students with an undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or above may be allowed to take classes on a non-matriculated status. Non-matriculated students may take a maximum of 9 credit hours. Any additional courses require the student to be matriculated in a program.

Financing Opportunities
Students in the HIM program are generally working professionals. Therefore, funding for assistantships and academic internships is limited.
