Fall: February 1 Application Type: The application deadline is February 1 in order to be admitted to the program and begin coursework during the following academic year. Applicants must complete both a Counseling Psychology Program application and a College of Education application. A supplemental application is required. To obtain the supplemental application, please contact the program at www.temple.edu/education/counspsych.
Letters of reference Number Required:3From whom: Anyone familiar with the applicant’s academic or clinical experience/competencies may write letters of recommendation. In general, the most common source of these letters are college/university faculty members and work supervisors.
Statement
of Goals:
Applicants should indicate their goals and objectives for obtaining a master’s degree. This statement is evaluated against the program’s mission. Applicants are asked to submit two essays (1-2 double-spaced pages each) answering the following questions: 1. Describe three major life goals and how you plan to achieve them. 2. Why do you want to become a counselor?
Standardized
Test Scores:
The GRE is required. Although no minimum score for the GRE is specified, it is expected that the scores will generally be no less than 500 on each section. The program evaluates all components of the GRE but gives somewhat more weight to the verbal score. Although no minimum score for the MAT is specified, it is expected that the scores will generally be no less than the 50th percentile.Minimum TOEFL score or range of scores needed to be accepted: 600 on the paper-based test or 250 on the computer-based test.
Interview:
Applicants who pass the initial application screening will be invited for an individual or group interview with members of the faculty between February and April. The interviews will be used to obtain additional data related to admissions criteria (e.g., clarify questions raised by the candidates application) and will be used to make an assessment of communications skills which are associated with success in counselor training.

A resume is required.
Other:
If the applicant’s undergraduate degree is not in the field of psychology, (s)he is asked to type all undergraduate and/or graduate courses taken in psychology on a separate sheet of paper and attach the information to the Program Application.

Transfer Credit
Courses may be transferred into the program if they: a) have been completed less than five years from the date of admission to the program, b) have not been used to complete another terminal degree, and c) are relevant to the field of counseling psychology.
