PROGRAM INFORMATION

Journalism, MJ

(Concentration: Business Communication)

The Master of Journalism program provides both introductory and advanced study for students who wish to begin or advance their careers in the mass media field.

Campus Location:
Main Campus

Courses are available at Center City and Harrisburg, but a complete program is not offered on either of those sites.

Students are able to complete the degree program through classes offered after 4:30 p.m. Students able to complete the degree program on a part-time basis (8 credit hours or less per semester).

Areas of Specialization:
Faculty members specialize and offer substantial coursework in the following areas: New media, magazine writing and production, public relations, photography, news reporting, broadcast news, law and ethics, and communication history.

Job Placement:
The program is dedicated to training practitioners in mass media, newspaper and broadcast reporters, magazine writers, public relations practitioners, and professionals in emerging fields such as web design and the Internet.

Interdisciplinary Study :
The program encourages interdisciplinary coursework for students who may find appropriate coursework in areas outside the Master of Journalism program. The program requires four core courses (16 sh) and the balance of courses (32 sh) may be taken from the Master of Journalism courses or those that meet the student's needs in other programs in the University.

Study Abroad:
MJ students may wish to participate in the London Program offered by the School of Communications and Theatre.

Non-degree Student Policy:
