The Department of Health Studies offers graduate study leading to the Master of Science degree in Environmental Health, with concentrations in Occupational Health/Industrial Hygiene and in Environmental Health/Environmental Technology. The Occupational Health/Industrial Hygiene concentration focuses on worker health and safety. It emphasizes the application of basic scientific and engineering principles to recognizing, evaluating, and controlling workplace health and safety hazards. The Environmental Health/Environmental Technology concentration focuses on the broader community environment and deals with the evaluation, control, and mitigation of environmental pollution. A dual degree program leading to the M.S. in Environmental Health and M.B.A. in management is available.

Students are required to complete the degree program through classes offered before and after 4:30 p.m. Students able to complete the degree program on a part-time basis (8 credit hours or less per semester).

Ranking:
The program is the only one of its kind in the region, and one of a relatively small group nationally. Faculty are internationally recognized for their leadership. Program graduates in industrial hygiene routinely achieve professional certification.

Interdisciplinary
Study :
The program encourages interdisciplinary coursework, research, and interactions among faculty and students with interests in environmental health. The program is closely tied to the Center for Public Health and students have access to over 100 faculty at Temple University as well as regional scholars who are actively involved in both teaching and research in public health. In addition, many courses are cross-listed in the College of Engineering, facilitating interdisciplinary study in engineering and applied science.
