Program Requirements

Pharmaceutics, MS

Campus Location:
Fort Washington, Health Science

Students may take a majority of required and elective courses at Fort Washington. A few courses may be offered at the Health Science campus. Research may be carried out at the Health Science campus under the supervision of his/her advisor.

Full-time/Part-time Status
Students are required to complete the degree program through classes offered before and after 4:30 p.m.

Pharmaceutics 405, 406, 410, 485, 509, and 475

A total of 6 research credits must be taken for the thesis MS track. For non-thesis MS students in Pharamceutics, an additional 12 didactic credits can replace the researh credits.

Thesis

  • Thesis 1 - The MS thesis is an original, theoretical and/or empirical study that contributes to the field of pharmaceutics. It should expand existing knowledge and demonstrate the student's knowledge of research methods and a mastery of his or her primary area of interest. The thesis should be rigorously investigated, uphold the ethics and standard of the pharmaceutics field, demonstrate an understanding of the relationship between the primary area of interest and the broader field of pharmaceutics, and be prepared for publication in a professional journal.
  • Thesis 2 - Students who are preparing to defend their thesis should confirm a time and date with their advisor and register with the Graduate Secretary at least 15 days before the defense is to be scheduled. The Graduate Secretary will arrange the time, date, and room within two working days, and forwards to the student the appropriate forms.
  • Thesis 3 - The Thesis Examining Committee will evaluate the student's ability to express verbally his or her research question, methodological approach, primary findings, and implications. The Committee will vote to pass or fail the thesis and the defense at the conclusion of the public presentation. The thesis Examining Committee is comprised of at least three Graduate Faculty members. Two members, including the Chair, must be from the School of Pharmacy.
