Program Requirements

Social Work, MSW

(Concentration: Administration/Social Planning)

Campus Location:
Main Campus, Harrisburg

The entire MSW Program is available at both campuses but only on a part time basis in Harrisburg.

Full-time/Part-time Status
Students are able to complete the degree program through classes offered before and after 4:30 p.m.

General Program Requirements:

Number of Didactic credits required beyond the Baccalaureate:
60

Required Courses:
SA 401, 402, 406, 413, 414, 420, 440, 441, 450, 451, 557, 540, 522, 523, 545 or 625, 550, 551, 566, 567, 501 or 627, Elective (1).

Students must take foundation courses in Human Behavior (6 credits), Social Policy(6 credits), Research and Program Evaluation (6 credits), Practice (6 credits) and Field (6 credits including Community Encounter). Students at the advanced level take Administrative/Planning Practice (6 credits), Field (6 credits), Organizational Theory (3 credits), Financial Managment (6 credits), Elective (3 credits), 3 credits in Supervision or Social Planning, and 3 credits in Personnel or Community Planning.

Internship:
TrueAll students spend the equivalent of three days per week in placement in a social agency. Field placement occurs concurrently with social work practice courses. There are two year long field placement experiences, one that focuses on developing proficiency in generalist practice and a second that focuses on the administrative, organizational, planning and policy dimensions of social work. Field Education Specialists meet with new and continuing students to explore possible field sites based on student learning needs and interests. Part-time students employed in social service settings may have their placement arranged at their place of employment if the agency meets the school's requirements. The school maintains the responsibility to arrange field placements.
