Full-time/Part-time Status
Students are required to complete the degree program through classes offered before and after 4:30 p.m.

General Program Requirements:

Number of Didactic credits required beyond the Baccalaureate:
20

Required Courses:
Six (6) graduate credits are required. three (3) of these courses must be in the student's area of concentration, which depends upon the track.

Students must earn a total of 18 hours of course work. At least 3 courses must be in their track. Six (6) credits of research are also required.

Culminating Exam

  • Comprehensive Exam Description - The purpose of the comprehensive examination includes demonstrating a breadth and depth of knowledge in the core concepts of chemitry as given in the "Course Masters" track.
  • Comprehensive Exam Subject - The exam is based upon the student's major track in chemistry.
  • Comprehensive Exam Complete - The comprehensive exam is usually the last requirement to be fulfilled.
  • Comprehensive Exam Write - Faculty members in the student's track write the questions for the comprehensive exam.
  • Comprehensive Exam Grade - The faculty members who write the questions will grade the exam.
  • Comprehensive Exam Schedule - Students should schedule the exam though the Graduate secretary.
  • Thesis

  • Thesis 1 - The M.A. thesis should be an original piece of research. Often, but not always, the research described in the M.A. thesis can be published in a peer-reviewed journal.
  • Thesis 2 - The student will coordinate the time with his Graduate Advisory Committee.
  • Thesis 3 - The student's Master's Committee is responsible for evaluating the thesis and its defense. No thesis should go to defense unless it is ready for public scrutiny.
