PROGRAM INFORMATION

Healthcare Management, MBA

The Fox School of Business and Management offers MBA programs that help develop a solid understanding of business models created by the synergistic forces of globalization, entrepreneurship and information technology. Our approach to graduate education helps develop practical expertise through case analysis, presentations, interaction with business practitioners, and team projects. The Fox School prepares students to step immediately into key management roles in highly specialized fields. The Fox School is the region's second largest business graduate school with over 1300 students studying in 16 areas of concentration. Campus Location:
Center City

All six required business foundation classes and the advanced managerial courses are offered at both the Center City and Fort Washington campuses throughout the year. Upper-level courses are offered at the Center City campus. Courses are also offered on-line.

Students are required to complete the degree program through classes offered after 4:30 p.m. Students able to complete the degree program on a part-time basis (8 credit hours or less per semester).

Ranking:
The Fox School of Business and Management is ranked 14th for technology MBA programs by Computerworld, and holds a specialty ranking of 26th in the nation for healthcare management programs. The Fox School has been recognized for research in numerous departments. Currently we are submitting materials to several media outlets responsible for the general ranking of business schools; we believe that the Fox School will be ranked among the top 50 business schools for our MBA programs.

Temple has the oldest accredited Health Administration program in the region, accredited by both the AACSB and the Accrediting Commission on Education for Health Services Administration. The Healthcare Management program is accredited by the Accrediting Commission on Education in Health Services Administration. The program provides a comprehensive look at the organization, management and financing of healthcare organizations. The curriculum was designed to provide students with a practical understanding of how healthcare organizations function and are managed.

Areas of Specialization:
The courses that make up the concentration requirement for the MBA in Healthcare Management are taken in the following areas: Acct 401 -- Fundamentals of Accounting, Econ 403 -- Economic Analysis, Fin 401 -- Financial Management of Business, MSOM -- 405 Operations Management, Mktg -- 401 Marketing, Management: Creating Value, Stat 402 -- Statistical Analysis, Advanced Management Perspectives: BA 510 -- Managing People and Organizations, BA 511 -- Globalization, BA 512 -- Managing Risk, BA 513 -- The Valuation of Firms, BA 514 -- Entrepreneurial Thinking and Innovation, BA 515 -- Emerging Technology Applications, BA 516 -- Law and Ethics in Business, Concentration courses include: HM 501 -- Health Systems Organizations, HM 502 -- Risk Based Management of Clinical Services, HM 503 -- Risk Based Financing of Healthcare, HM 504 -- Financial Management-Healthcare, Institutions Capstone Sequence: BA 960/961 or any BA capstone sequence.

Research is supported by the Fox School of Business and Management's eBusiness Institute, the Institute for Entrepreneurship and Innovation, the Institute for Global Strategic Management, the Institute for Healthcare Management, the Center for eMarketing, the Ethics Resource Center, the Safeguard Scientifics Center for Economic Education, the Institute for Financial Services, and the Small Business Development Center. Research interests of the Fox School faculty are also supported by numerous centers and institutes throughout Temple University.

Interdisciplinary Study :
Students seeking an MBA in Healthcare Management may take the following four 500-level courses: HM 501 - Health Systems Organizations; HM 502 - Risk Based Management of Clinical Services; HM 503 - Risk Based Financing of Healthcare; HM 504 - Financial Management-Healthcare Institutions. The Fox School of Business and Management also offers an MBA/MS in Healthcare Management / Healthcare Financial Management.

Study Abroad:
The Fox School of Business provides graduate level courses during the summer at its Rome, Italy campus.

Non-degree Student Policy:
Students with an undergraduate GPA of 2.8 or above may take classes on a non-matriculated status. Non-matriculated students can take a maximum of nine credit hours. Any additional courses require the student to be matriculated in a program.
