Deadline
Fall: February 15 Application Type: Process through Deadline (evaluate applications as they arrive) International applicants must have completed applications in by December 15th to facilitate the review process. Applicants seeking Advanced Standing are encouraged to apply by January 15th. A supplemental application is required. Letters of reference Number Required:3From whom: Letters of recommendation should come from faculty and professionals familiar with the applicant's academic competence and/or professional work experience.
Applicants who have graduated from college within the last five years should submit at least one reference from a professor or official of the college.
Applicants seeking Advanced Standing status should obtain two references from their college, one of which must be from their senior seminar professor.
Applicants with employment experience in the social services or a related field should submit at least one reference from a supervisor or administrator at their place of employment.
Statement
of Goals:
The Statement of Professional Plans and Goals should be limited to six (6) double-spaced typed pages (Font size 12) and should include the following:
•why you are seeking graduate education and where your educational and career interests lie;
•your experience with people of different ethnic, religious, or racial backgrounds;
•an area of practice in which you have a special interest; and
•type of position or organization in which you would like to work in the future.
Reflecting on the School's mission, identify a specific instance or issue of social injustice about which you have some concern and discuss your reasons. Also, discuss your plans for financing your education.
For students who have matriculated in another master's program, include the following:
•where you attended;
•the type of program;
•the number of courses completed;
•the reason(s) for not continuing; and
•a statement about your experience.
Standardized
Test Scores:
Minimum TOEFL score or range of scores needed to be accepted: 600 on the paper-based test or 250 on the computer-based test.
Interview:
While the interview is not a requirement for admission, some applicants may be invited to interview with the Director of Admissions and/or his/her designate should there be a need to respond to specific questions or concerns. The Department will schedule individual interviews when indicated.
Resume:
A resume is required.
Writing Sample:
The writing sample, an element of the Professional Plans and Goals Statement, should demonstrate your ability to write a scholarly paper. Should there be a need for citing, it should be in accordance with a professional, scholarly manual of style. The paper should be no more than 6 double-spaced pages with a font size of at least 12. The paper must be related to a social injustice issue of your interest.

Transfer Credit
Provision is made for transfer of credit into the Master of Social Work Program in accord with the following guidelines:
•All courses for which credit transfer is sought are subject to evaluation and approval by the School.
•No course that has been taken more than five years prior to enrollment
will be approved for transfer credit. •No course that has been used to satisfy the requirements for another degree, either at Temple or at any other institution, will be approved for transfer credit.
•All transfer credits must be of "B" quality or better.
•Students must complete a Request for Transfer of Credit form that is available from the MSW Secretary. An official transcript issued by the registrar or other appropriate authority at the institution where the credits were earned must accompany this form.
•A maximum of nine (9) credits earned prior to matriculation may be counted toward the degree requirements.

Test Waivers:
Applicants from a CSWE Accredited BSW Program may be eligible for Advanced Standing. They must have earned the BSW no more than 5 years prior to application. They must have: a 3.0 overall GPA and 3.0 in the Junior and Senior years, no more than 1 C in the major, and two academic references (one of which must be from the senior seminar professor). A summer course that begins in June is required. Twenty-five credit hours are transferred in and the student begins the second year of study at the advanced curriculum level in their area of concentration.
